As a child, it was his single mother’s passion for community and justice that influenced Mario the most. From her, he learned the value of education and standing up for the rights of all citizens. His upbringing served as the foundation for successful careers as a primary and college-level teacher, business owner, a respected county deputy district attorney and now Mayor.

Work with our local Police and Fire departments to Increase Public Safety
Public Safety - Mayor Mario Trujillo approved the purchase of new fire engines, authorized a $25,000 recruitment incentive for more police officers, contracted a security company, and installed cameras in Downtown Downey to enhance public safety. He is committed to furthering efforts to safeguard the community.

Partner with small businesses to enhance Economic Development
Economic Development - Mayor Mario Trujillo initiated a campaign to promote local small businesses and enhancements to the city's online permitting system. His objective is to foster a thriving local economy and enhance user experience.

Repave streets, repair sidewalks, & clean alleys for Neighborhood Preservation
Neighborhood Preservation - Mayor Mario Trujillo allocated over $41 million to repave major and residential streets, $1.4 million for sidewalks, and $485,000 for alleys. Moreover, he oversaw the installation of additional streetlights in residential areas. His unwavering focus remains on investing in our neighborhoods for their improvement.

Community outreach to improve the Quality of Life of all Downey residents
Quality of Life - Mayor Mario Trujillo implemented regulations on vehicle parking in streets to increase available parking space for residents. He also sanctioned the establishment of a community garden and a second dog park. His objective is to uphold a clean and well-regulated city environment.
